I want to smooth my front and rear bumper recess (sp) When i spoke to someone bout it they said i need to 'really key it in!' What does this mean?
Also anyone got any pics of front or rear smoothed bumpers?
Thanks in advance!

It means 40 grit it with wet and dry so it's really rough and furry. Also, make some straight verticle gouges with an angle grinder in it. Make sure th cutting disk doesn;tgo all the way through the plastic, but gets really hot and nelts the plastic into a U shape with furry bits either side. Then you are ready to apply some fibreglass paste. Always apply more fibreglass paste than you need because it doesn't shrink as much as the easy sand filler. Then sand it into shape with a D/A. Then apply some easy sand filler on top and block until perfect. Don't rush or it will be crap. Also, you may need to re-apply more filler to get it right, it wont happen first time...

ed u really need to throw away the 40 grit. no place for it on a cars body.. 2 rough.. would just run a wee grinding roloc where u want to fill and rub the egdes with say 80 grit. then fill. u want to try and avoid the furr

The black plastic on the bumpers is oily so it needs a really good key for fibreglass and filler to stick to. It's the only time I would use it...

You need to have a key for the fibreglass to stick to. Fibreglass doesn't stick to plastic very well....

no, the black part of the bumper: what if I only sand it...meaning I make it smooth it using ONLY sand paper?

So you want to keep the recess but get rid of the orange peel? Sanding it sounds like hard work to me. Just use high build plastic primer on it and flat that back.
