dont be scared,have a go yourself mate
just dont buy cheap crap 
a GOOD headunit is the place to start..alpine,pioneer,nakamichi (sp) etc then go from there

I have a kenwood head unit.
Whats good brands to look for? whats wattage stuff do i need ect?

Ive found my Kenwood to be excellent and good at high volumes, plus lots of scope for tuning the frequencies etc. It's the 7031 btw

for front components look at Infinity if youre on a budget, then Focal, Diamond and Rainbow are really good
