Some of you may know i got made 'redundant' on Monday 15th May
Went into work as usual, got called into the board room by my boss and he basically said he cannot afford to pay me anymore, so is going to have to let me go.
I handed over my office keys, emptied my desk and went on home.
He said he would pay me for my work for that month, plus 1 weeks holiday and the rest of my mileage money.
My main problem is that i didnt have a contract (had been there a year but he didnt sort it out).
He said i would have the cheque by the end of last week, but nothing arrived so i called him. He said the accountant was sorting it out for the end of the month. Seems i used to get payed on the 28th, and its a bank holiday this seems odd to me.
Theoretically, he doesnt have to pay me does he, as there was no contract?
If he doesnt, is there any action i could take? Dont raelly fancy missing out on £1000 when i havent got a job.

ring the accountant and ask when the cheque is being sorted.
If she/he says i dont know, just say you dont mind waiting while she finds out.
it will be difficult to get any money out of a company, espically as they wont be getting anything in return.
I kinda recently experienced this myself, but as it was a side job i didnt mind waiting.
It took me 3 months to get a £300 cheque for doing a simple website.

Ive been there since last June, have payslips, a letter of confirmation that i had finished my probationary period and a copy of the contract, but it is unsigned.
Im not sure if hes going to be honourable to be honest, i think the business isnt doing too well. He may just look at the 1K and prefer to keep it in his pocket.
Revenge may make me feel better though

you have pay slips, that is enough as proof of employment.
the problem come is if he an argue that you were working on a tempory basis and you knew you would loose your job

Thing is - if they were in trouble to sack you, it sounds like they're in trouble financially - probably with a lot of bills to pay.
The guy probably ranks paying someone their wage who's left, lower priority at this moment in time, than keeping the business afloat.
So he's probably stalling on a few payments (including your wage) till the next big bit of work they do or they get some decent money come in.
Sucks for you though - but hopefully he wont be a bastard and will pay you.
