Just finalising my round the world plans and my only final concern is Australia. I have planned to go for 1 month with a budget of £1500 (for accomodation(mainly hostels), internal flights, food and stuff to do).

If anyone else on here has been is 1 month enough to do everything and is £1500 enough?

Off to New Zealand for a month afterwards with half the budget (much cheaper).....

Well as part of my work I have to go abroad a lot, been to Australia a few times but most was for 3 weeks but I wasn't budgeting, I went with a "Ah sod it I'll buy that then" attitude. I would have thought so aslong as you don't go to Australia's version of Stringfellows everynight.

1500 might see you by if your in cheap hotels, or always try the back packing hostels.......i think you might struggle with that.

My folks went last year for 8 weeks and the whole job lot set them back 8 grand, but they did do quite alot.

Try get 2k together if you really want to have a good time. Its a wicked place and you want to make the most of it, stuff scraping the barrell.

1 Month is never enough in Australia - Its such a huge place you wouldnt be able to see it in a year realistically.

As a guide of prices - I spent £7000 in 6 months but £3500 was on beer. I also went on a lot of activities as well, some of which were expensive like going flying in a 2 seater plane with the postman for a long day over northern queensland - i think it was a few hundred quid.

Basically - if you dont drink its very cheap (not that the beer is expensive coz its not - you just consume a lot of it and very regularly).

Hostels are cheap - one i spent 2 months in was like £40 a week which is good all things considered.

Travel is cheap - greyhound coaches and sometimes even the virgin blue flights are cheaper than buses, otherwise, check notice boards in hostels coz they are full of people wanting to share rides and offering rides etc.

One word of warning though - You will definitly not want to leave when the time comes - make sure you dont overstay your permitted time because they won't let you back in ever again.

Just have fun, respect the place and the people and don't overlook any chance for adventure.......oh, and make sure you sleep on the beach a few times, it really is excellent under the stars.

Ben.

Thanks for the comments Ben. I do drink but no where near as as much/frequent as you so that wont be an issue. Sound like I'm about right budget wise which is good.

I want to stay in hostels too to keep the prices down a bit as compared to somewhere like India (£5 a day for everything!) - Australia is going to feel a bit more expensive!

Just cant wait to set off now - i'm most looking forward to the Cook Islands and Easter Island out of everything on my list

Im in Australia now, and im off to do a 14,000ft Sky dive hopefully at the weekend

Thats costing $250 Water rafting is around @140

Hostels are around $180 a week for a nice clean one.

Im moving into my own apartment on monday thats $300 a week brand new fully furnished, pool, barbeque, gym, carpark space, 24hour security etc.

Wages im earning $1000 a week at the moment.

And its pointless comming to Australia for 1month in my eyes, Everyone ive meet has been on a Subclass 457 Working holiday visa for 1 year.

Once your out here mate you wont want to come home lol. Ive been here 5months now and i havnt really seen much. Plenty of years left yet though

I spent £3,000 in 6 months!

Cheap hostels are about $20 a night, if you book for 7 nights you get 1 or 2 nights free and some also include meals.

beer is $4 a pint, or about$10 a jug if i remember rightly

skydive was $300 including the video, and that was on mission beach

i did 1 months work for lindemans vinery and i did 2 weeks voluntary for pro drive on the barrier reef

But all the prices ive quoted remember to divide that by 2.5 and you have the cost in pounds!

You will have the time of your life, i suggest hostels, and the Oz Experience bus pass from sydney to cairns do that for 3 weeks, then fly from cairns to alice springs, see ayres rock!
Fly to Adelaide and then pick up the Oz Experience bus there do the great ocean road and melbourne to see a sporting event!

Dotn spend too long in sydney like most people as the rest of us is soooo much better

Christ - what are you doing to earn that and live like that? I thought the best you get on a working visa is a field picker or something similar!
