I thought that as well MarkM but the figures do add up.
It costs something like 3billion helping the idiots who smoke on the NHS but they pay 8 billion i tax.
The figures are close to that anyway iirc.

the text on the packets made no difference (my mates still smoke and i work in a supermarket and i didnt notice any of the regulars giving up due to the text. I personally dont think the images will work and it will effect some people emotionally (e.g. doug) and to be fair i think its in-considerate of the government.

These people are inhailing toxic smoke which essentially is killing them...I fail to see how a picture reminding them what they are doing to themselves is inconsiderate...

They are also killing other people with them so maybe the thinking is if non smokers get annoyed they will get on the backs of the smokers.
I doubt anything the government does is this well thought out though.

I have just quit smoking and it was my own choice (no pressure from anyone else). As a former smoker the only reason people give up is when they realise its pointless paying £5 a day to kill themselves. Pics and things don't work just common sense.

no amount of visual warning puts you off. and if kids want to smoke at school age, they will, even if the packet has got some lungs on it etc

Tbh its up to themselves if they smoke no one else so why should the government and evryone push their non smoking opinion on everyone!
People are loosing their job aswell, my dad worked at Rothamns all his life and its closed the Darlo branch down because of Tony Blair

saw a young preggers bird outside work the other day and got the horn on for her.
then realised she was smoking a fag, looked about 8 months pregnant. Maybe the fetus picture on a fag box would have worked on her.

agree with this, have a mate who smokes, as soon as i get in his car he rolls a fag and lights up, even with the window open im still breathing all his shit in, and he just doesnt give a flying fcuk. same when we in pub etc, constantly smoking and its fuckign wafting in my face. Its basically like i dont have a choice and just have to put up with it.
