I wouldn't really worry about the air being cold on a turbo car, you are figting a loosing battle really.
Hence why we have intercoolers.
Yes, and not pieces of tumble dryer ducting.

ambient air temp today was 14 degrees,
when i logged it 2 days ago the ambient air temp was 15 degrees.
although the intake temp is clearly lower in my logs, this wasnt my main aim ed, my main aim was get get more air through the system, if the maf sensor detects more air, you get more fueling, more power etc etc

i have some nice black mesh i got from work
its soft plastic rather than metal, almost rubberlike. its main use is non slip matting, although it is a nice woven pattern. 'borrowed' a roll, could cut some off?

see what your saying with fighting a loosing battle on a turbo engine...
BUT!
cold air is a bonus with any engine... and on a cold night you notice a turbo lump making more boost and feeling obviously quicker!! Surely every little helps when it comes to keeping temps down!

So, what exactly has smoothing the air box done for you? Have you noticed any differance just from that?

the std airbox had plastic fins in it, think it was just there to add ridgidity or something, smoothing them off would have improved the airflow, how much difference just that made i dont know, probbaly nothing but every little helps, hence why i shop at tescos
