Walk round the entire place first and look at all the paper work for any car your'e interested in. If its pushed in to the auction area it doesn't run!!!

Theyr'e mainly full of sheds but if you look you can find some decent cars.

ive bought lots of cars from auctions main thing is u have a good look around the cars before u bid

and dont bid too early wait till bidding is stopping

remember there is commision on top of final price ranges from £20 up depending on price of car and what auction u go to

u should get a pretty new car for 2500 from an auction i got a 3 year old 106 for 2200 to give u an idea of what u can get

depends on the price range you have for a car,as most day sales are usually for more expensive cars £3000 upwards and the cheapos £5-£3000 are saved for the night sale as there is a lot more people there.

and warranty very rarely gets offered on old cars.

i noticed your from westyorkshire, which auctions do u go to? i tend to go to premier a lot.

Choose your auction carefully, there are some where dealers (my work included) send the crap there. But others are ex fleet and for £2500 you will get a 53/54 plate ford ka. Or an older corsa.

good job i spotted this thread, i actually work for manheim car auctions in leicester, and i can tell you that 99% of cars that are sold at auction are ex fleet cars...or more simply company cars, the vast majority of them are sound with FSH, some have tax and have genuinely been looked after, now the bad thing about them is that they are quite high milege, we dont normally sell anything older than 01 plate now, but as there company cars alot of it is motorway miles, but for example.....

01 plate 1.8 ford focus ghia, FSH, 98k miles, expect to pay around 3000 - 3500

there are bargains to be had its just knowing what you want and how much you want to pay for it

now another problem is that the cars are sold as seen, so if u do buy it and then find that theres a problem, then you cant go back to the auctions and expext to get it fixed...basically u dont get any form of warrenty, where as u buy from a garage you might get a few months warrenty.

but to be honest i wouldnt have any problems buying from an auction, but just make sure you stick to your limits of how much you want to pay, and if miss out on a car dont worry cuz theres plenty more to go through, dont buy on instinct wait it out untill you find the best car you can, and get there as early as you can so that you have time to have a good scout about the place and look at all the cars

and one more thing only go to one of the major auction companys, British Car Auctions, or who i work for Manheim Europe - who are actually the worlds leading car auction company, plus theres 19 sites across england so there should be one near you....

Different days have different lots. Some days are finance cars/ pxs / fleet cars etc...

I went with my dad once and we stumbled into an auction hall full of repossesed cars....with fully decked out M3's, Porsche 911's, Mercs, Bentleys etc... Very impressive

All cared for prime examples, just their owners couldn't keep up the payments!
