alrite i thought i would post pics of my engine rebuild just incase anyone is intrested and it might stop some of these stupid questions about getting 150bhp of an electric air filter
so far i have bought
c16xe head
x16xe lower manifold
mantzel inlet manifold (rep)
mantzel chip (7500rpm)
helix clutch
lightened and balanced flywheel
full uprated gasket set
x16xe throttle body
k&n induction kit
magnex full system exhaust
wallace performance de-cat.
future plans are
head polished and ported when gary from migweb gets back.
newman 262 (i think) cams
steel con rods
forged pistons
crank knife cut and balanced
vernier pulleys
sbd cambelt rollers
i aint sure exactly what lifters, valve springs etc to get and that would work with my cams.
anyway here is the pics i have so far.
this is the head as i got it:

i have cleaned the throttle body and inlet ports on the lower manifold
(have only done one of the ports in the pic)

i might put a full spec of my car up later on once i get more stuff.
a couple other pics

any opinons on what else i should get and what you think about what i have done are welcome good or bad.
thanks

forget the manzel and get throttle bodies. the manzel would be wasted on a engine of that spec.

mantzel wont be a waste on that spec.
probably comes down to money, tb's fully set up and mapped will cost in exess of £2500. mantzel will cost £250.

and in my opinion, this lot:
newman 262 (i think) cams
steel con rods
forged pistons
crank knife cut and balanced
vernier pulleys
is a lot of money for very little gain. dont need cams, steel rods, forged pistons etc unless you are looking at 8500 rpm+ rev limit, that aint gonna happen on standard/ chipped management.
for what you are spending you will see 150 ish bhp (what i got with similar spec) and its not a 'real' 150 as it will just be a big peak in power at 5000 rpm so it will need to be revved so hard to wring the power out of it. i learned the hard way and spent £1000's to find out that tb's are the way forward.
i wasnt dissapointed with my mantzel set-up in any way. it was great fun, but its a bit of a dead end. comes down to money tbh.

Agreed. I dont think newman make cams for 16v but i may be wrong.

Newman make cames for the 1.6 as I have been looking into getting eithwe 264 or 288 cams.
Retail of them both is about £325 IIRC.

Just found the newman cams website and it says 288 does run on hydraulic lifters

IIRC the 288s need management and again IIRC says its ideal for use with throttle bodies.
Which is fine because thats the route im going.

as i said above, dont worry about cams unless you have tb's. im running what are believed to be standard cams on mine and producing 170 bhp.
standard management wont like anything more than a 260ish cam. mantzel chips are notorious for causing overfuelling problems (just a superchip really) look at something like a unichip or a remap. both about £450.
but then you might as well go for tb's. a second hand set will go for £1200. then fit them yourself and get a decent base map (i have loads) and i know someone selling a set for about that complete
