that one I made for the 7fter houses two tanks. The 7ft on top (obviously) and a 4fter under it (where the gap is). I left enough room above it, around 8" and then put a folding flap type thing so it covers the gap.
As for pics of stands, aquaist forums are the best places to look, most have DIY parts.

it was originally a unit that I just put a load of shit in and I was fed up of my tank not matching the rest of the furniture (was beech) so in the middle of changing it to a tank stand.
Had to remove the legs it had (like the units either side) and Ive got wood on order to brace it all inside and the tank either side where it overhangs. Will look good once its done I hope, and the filters will be hidden in the cupboard on the left.

on the 7fter I used 4x4 for the legs, 6 along the back and 4 along the front.
on the 5ft I built (cant find pics) I used 2x3 with 4 legs along the back and 4 along the front. Made the top and bottom frame work out of 2x3 too. I'll find a tutorial I used now...

Here you go, one tutorial.
That website also has some other good tutorials on there and a good DIY section.
