My Astra has these unfortunately, and takes about 5 years to brake, whereas I get in my brother's mk4, which has 256mm brakes, and you only have to lightly put your foot on the brake and it stops. His car is only a 'Club' which I guess is equivalent to an LS?

What idiot at GM thought it would be a good idea to put 236mm brakes on an ASTRA!

I thought the only Corsa models that came with 256mm brakes were the 1.6 Sport and GSi?

My original brakes were 20mm

Think they came off a toy car Not like you needed them with 44/45bhp, can just open the door and put a foot out to stop.

For the record, the 256mm Corsa brakes aren't as good as the Astra ones (discs on the Astra version are thicker I believe).

Braking in my brother's old V6 Cavalier (284mm brakes) was interesting... Think of hitting a brick wall at speed... One day I will have braking power that good!

Well they have on the mk4... Minimum brakes on the mk4 are 256mm.

Maybe they realised they need to take safety aspects of their cars more seriously...

My 1.2 16v has these, being the sort of person who brakes late, this is not good!

I'm off for v6 calipers and 288mm discs.

yup, the corsa trip is a special editio so that must be why they're wood tbh though I'd rather just have an anchor nd throw that out whenever sharp braking was needed

I can get new discs and pads fairly cheap through Vauxhall Trade Club, but where is the best place to get reconditioned calipers? Vauxhall sell them as well but they charge a surcharge (anyone happen to know what it is out of interest?).
