First thing I noticed is that they're rather rusty

So am I right in thinking that I should be moving the red bit upwards to make the spring smaller? So that it sits lower? IS that right?
Its a bit stiff to turn Maybe due to the rust Sure a wire brush & some lube will do the trick?
Cars in the air at the mo so the quicker response the better
Cheers

Remove the strut and get hold of spring compressors. Release the tension on the collar then try adjusting. Its a 2 piece collar so you need to adjust the bottom first, then wind the top down to meet.
They look too rusty imo, keep in mind the threads for coilovers are not very deep so if you screw them up your fucked. If i were you i'd strip them down and treat them to in an electrolysis bath then wirebrush/steelwool then take a look at them and see if they will move. Perhaps this is a little too harsh on the rust, just be very carefull removing it.

best idea mate, they look like they've had it. When you get new ones, smear them in grease. Look very ugly but will last years longer.

my avos looked fucked, but when i removed them today i took a wire brush to them and they came up all shiney! just attack them with a wire brush and soak them in wd40, will soon have them loose, also to lower the car lower the spring platforms
