I just use metal polish on my alloy. Guessing its something in a bit worse condition than my wheels though

Best way is to use a sandpaper flap wheel to take off all the cast finish. Then basically work through every possible grade until all the previous marks are out. I then used a proper metal polishing kit with supercut polish bar and then colour bar to finish.
Here are some pics

The finish wasnt super as i missed out 500 and 600 grade so i have taken it back to 500 to rework it.
It a fair bit of time to do it all. Also did the outer rims on my wheels but as they werent coated they soon got messy again.

Wish I had the enthusiasm to do something like that in my spare time. It just takes so long to do it properly and I'd end up getting bored

I agree..
Thought it would be a good idea to polish my crossover pipe on my z20let. Used Nitromors to get the paint off and started rubbing away, got bored after a few days and put it back. Currently looks worse than it did originally. It will take ages to get it as shiny as I want.

Autosol is a metal polish. It would be pretty useless on laquered metal.
