what sort of locking nut is it steve?
is it:
3 holes?
Mc Guard type?
or one of those ones with the moving outer ring?

its round and hollow, a bolt with splines goes into it, the splines on the inside of the locking nut are nows smooth

if its the 3 hole type or the mcguard type then a socket will do it, but its a pain
if its the moving ring one, then you'll need to take it somewhere who has a big airgun

socket should do it, make sure you get one thats about 16.5mm though, or you'll be paying to have them removed
