Depending on the offence, u either get a ban then have to resit or u just have to resit. But either wat the points still stay on it regardless of ban or not

Rules must be different in Scotland then because I got 7 points in my first two years of driving and there still on my new licence and will be for the forseeable future

well not really as the person has been proven guilty of speeding in the 1st 2 years of driving twice when at the end of the day they should be taking more care due to lack of experience in your first few years anyway so i agree with it

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/endorsem.htm#6.%20The%20Road%20Traffic%20(%20New%20Drivers)%20Act%201995

as far as i was aware though from being in contact with DVLA, the points do stay on your licence, and the limit is then raised to 12 to justify the new 6 points. if you clock up a total of 12 (or 6 extra points within the 2 years of passing new test (this includes ANY endorsements attained within 3 years of any offence) then you get banned and goes to the courts.

causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis (shown on the licence as CD70).

or 4 years from date of conviction if the offence is as listed below :

offences resulting in disqualification.

disqualified from holding a full licence until a driving test has been passed.

I was caught twice in my first two year of driving both time doing over 60 mph (please note at this point i am not proud of this) I went to court put my side of the story across, with a few white lies here and there and ended up with a 28 day ban BUT no points on my licence but was hit with a £150 fine plus court charges.
