Going from silver to black.
do i scotch up surface and spray black.
rub down re prime and spray black.
Any other ideas, .... original paint came from gun in bodyshop, im using cans.

sand down with wet and dry, you need to get most of the lacquer removed by sanding or yes there can be a reaction. Its hard to judge if your not used to it, but you know your rubbing lacquer as the water from the sand paper goes a milkly colour. You'll want to get down to the silver, there probaly is'nt much silver on it so it will do no harm if you see the plactic coming thru, then prime with plastic primer, and paint. Another thing about reactions is too make sure your not using a celluose paint from the can, as if there is a small trace of 2k lacquer on the surface it will react, as cellouse is not compatible with 2k paints.

depends what colour u changing from personally i think what ur doin is fine so if ur doin a straight swop with colours and surface's dont need any prepping, then id scotch them and just respray over the top.
but if u was spraying silver over black u would need primer as silver would take alot of coats to build up over the black

Doesn't say on the tin whether or not its cellulose or 2k, just grabbe da tin of gloss black when i was purchasing paint a couple of month ago.... what lacquer is the bodyshop most likely to of used (one oldish man with not so high tec equipment)

apply a cot of barcoat before spraying, that will stop any reaction

the tin won't be 2 pack, it would be a 1k basecoat like acrylic. As long as your not your not using cellouse or have rubbed off the lacquer it should be fine. Check to see if the tin says acrylic, it prob is.
