Hello all,

Hows the fishy lot here getting on? Ally? Cosmo? etc etc

I've nearly got all my bits now for my marine tank, added anoter pump last night, also a blue tube to go with the white one I already have and also the adaptors etc.

Next up is loads of live rock (as im going fish only route with live rock) salt, ro water (believe this is best as tap water isnt good) and then test kits and the usual sand etc.

Not forgetting to try and give away all my old tropical fish etc

Pics aswell if you like peeps

Do we have any other marine peeps here?

We lost our fighter and a guppy to what appeared to be coloumnaris (sp) the tank is fine now, nitrites were up but sorted that with a water change

Got Richies sister set up properly with a hexagonal tank for her goldfish as well

Decided not to go for salt water for the new house as its going to be too expensive for me to run, probably gunna put the big tank on hold to save up and get a really nice one

Pics greg?

Will get some pics later if you like Ally, At the moment though it still has the tropical fish in it so basically just a tropical tank but with an extra pump & lights etc.

Im just going the live rock / fish route.

Ally, if you go the same route as me it isn't that much more expensive... Once you have paid for the live rock (expensive) it's then just the salt, water, test kits and fish..

Nah i mean as in doing it properly, Id like a 6 foot tank on a nice beech stand

and because its a big assed tank it means a bigger filter, heater (maybe 2) more live rock, more sand, more fish etc etc

Yeah i've gotcha

I should be ok, gonna take it slow and get like 2 nemos to start with and see how I go.

Apparently its a good idea to get some starter / cleaner fish... Would this be crayfish etc? is this ok to get though with normal nemos and live rock only?

Crayfish??? no!

Crayfish is a type of lobster and will eat other fish and grow wayyyy to big for the tank

Ro unit will save you ££ in the long run. Unless its a small tank and you can buy it from your LFS.

Try www.fishforums.net they have a great marine section. Dont put the fish in to quick unless your buying cultured rock. Gonna cost a bomb but better than waiting for it to cycle

yeah was gonna buy the RO and salt from my LFS but if this is a cheaper way then im all for it, the tank is only small so will be a hard one to sort but as i say only live rock and fish.

Yeah great forum that k17sty altho alot of peeps differ on answers

So what does the RO unit do exactly.
