Not sure if the garage is messing my pal about or not
Snapped the timing belt on her 1.6 16v tigra in January and it bent a few valves so they replaced them all and new timing belt etc
The oil light was constantly on once she got it back she took it to garage and they said couldnt see any problems with the oil etc and just to ignore it
2 weeks ago she was driving along when the car went dead and all the lights went on, she checked the engine and the timing belt had snapped again.
The garage came out to get the car and none of the valves had gone so they replaced the belt or her for nothing. Said didnt know what had caused it
Went to collect it yesterday, an hour before she picked it up they took it out to make sure it was ok. It done 15miles and was ok. They put the engine on just before she got there and loads of black smoke kept coming out the exhaust
They told her it now needs the bottom end rebuilt as too much oil had gone thru and told her its best to get a new engine. Even though the garage had said there was no oil problem
Does this kinda thing happen alot? Do u think she will need a new engine?
I think the garage are a bunch of cowboys!

id take them to trading standards sounds like they have fooked it and trying to make her pay for it
they should have insurance to cover there mess ups and should repair it for her as they should have fixed it the first time and not told her to ignore the warning light

She is picking the car up tomorrow and taking it somewhere else to see if they diagnose the same problem. But I think they are just trying to get money out of her

here is what could of happend.....
Cam belt broke damage happend to the top end this can sometimes put strain on the bottom end but would have thought it unusual
Cam belt braking the second time I cant really explain
Damage to the bottom end could have also been caused by debris from the first cam belt break getting into the oil pump, this would explain the oil light being on top end would rattle like a bitch though and you wouldnt get very far!
Normaly once the oil light is on its far to late!!!

Neither of us have been there before. She only went there as she works an hours drive away from home and she was near work when it happened first time and that was nearest. Went back second time only coz the work got done there before
I told her to go to trading standards but wanted to see if this was maybe a commen thing to happen on the 1.6 or not. Looks like its not lol
