matter of opinion really, in terms of build quality and reliability yes, but in terms of performance and handling i'd go for the renault.
gsi would be sensible choiceif i had kids etc

handling yes - speed in a straight line, I wouldnt have thought there was anything in it

more tunable too, you cant judge performance by just looking at book 0-60 times

wots the 0-100 of an astra gsi? i knw the coupe is around 19 secs??
clio 182 is around 17.5?

Dunno about 0-100 but 0-60 is about 6.9 ish
