Alrite guys just wondering how vital the voltage of the RCA pre-outs are on the head-unit??
I know 5v is the most you can get, but i was just wondering how vital they are in runnin a decent system???

5v is not the most you can get.
my headunit is 6.5v output

i think the higher the voltage the the more you can crank the speakers up without distortion, better-stronger signal aswell

if you have low pre-outs is it worth putting the gain up on the amp??

youre better off looking at the Signal to Noise ratio that the actual voltage of the Pre outs.

tbh mate, putting the gain further up can just distort it more, my gain is onyl turned up half way for my speakers and about 3quarters for my sub.

Try this, unplug your RCA cable from your amp and put your head near the speakers, you will hear a slight fuzz/buzz, as you turn up the gain it gets louder.
So in theory the lower you can set the gain and still get the same music volume from your speakers the better. This is what higher voltage pre-outs offer.

The highest ive seen preouts go within reasonable limits are 8v, thats what my line driver chucks out.
Basically the stronger the signal going into the amp, the lower the gains need to be and less stress on the amp.
