police in general are fine and like you said only scumbags have problems with them. however the way in which the goverment is driving the police into a all seeing big brother is not good. but that can't be placed upon invidual police officers (rant over)

Just so it can be discussed with a coppers point of view

Taken from local forum

Im asking this because....

T'other day I nipped out for a bulb for my mums Saxo & my other Corsa.
Going past the racecourse & there was some Sunday driver in the outside lane doing about 20mph.

I went into the other lane & undertook them. Granted, its not exactly the brightest thing to do but there were no other cars around & I was very cautious. I didn't exceed the speed limit at all.

This person then decided afterwards that they would change lanes as they were turning left. Quite why they felt the need to travel at such low speeds in the lane they dont want to be in is beyond me, old drivers never seem to have much logic though do they

Anyway..

I go into Motorworld, buy my things & head back to the car. When I get out there I see a Police car parked next to me. As I open my car he hops out & starts asking if its my car etc. Usual police questions.

He then tells me how a driver of another car had complained about my driving past the fire station. He didn't see it but he was in that near that junction & obviously the car I passed had stopped to have a moan. The copper siad he'd take a look as he was going back that way anyway.

So even though he didn't see me at all I've been issued with a warning for anti social behaviour/driving.

So based on hearsay from another driver who themselves isn't exactly a role model for road safety I get a warning. Im tempted to contest it. Plus the copper was on his own so it would be my word against his IF I'd done anything wrong (which I believe I havn't).

The copper was right enough with me & was a sound bloke but the whole system sucks if thats all they need to issue a warning.

If I get stopped again for the same thing they can seize my vehicle (thats any vehicle, so either of my cars) & I wont be allowed it back. This is valid for 12 months, so if someone else decides to do the same thing I may lose my car!

Not happy

IMO the anti social law is being over used by cops who dont know the law.

There has to be

1. Dangerous or carless driving

2. Anti Social element

3. Occur in an area where complaints have been recieved about drivers/cars

I.e Local strech of road where the 'boy racers' hang out each week and teh neigbours complain. An Officer can then issue a warning if he sees a car racing/wheelspinning/hitting rev limiter/ etc.

The Officer does not need to be coroborated when he does this

Quite ironic, considering that sitting in the outside lane while not overtaking is also an offence.

Hmmm

1. It wasn't dangerous or careless
2. It wasn't anti social
3. I have no idea about that strect of road as I rarely go on it. I don't really drive about much to be honest. Its not where you tend to see "cruiser cars" though.

So basically I shouldn't have been issued it

Nice

It is worrying though how if another motorist acts as a set of eyes for a copper he has the ability to seize my car. I'm no expert but surely overusing that caution surely can't be a good thing?
