Sorry about the essay. But may be some stuff there that would help someone.

And yeah, best form of Protein other than supplements is eggs. 100% Protein. Then Fish (Tuna being best) then Red Meats.

As Craig said, you'd be suprised at how much your own body can change for the best over a short period of time by really looking after it properly and strictly.

i just find the gym boring as fook now adays, i am too competative and that cant be satisfied by a gym, plus i dont like the look of big muscles (no offence to craig etc) i just want a really toned body as i alreayd got a decent mass and frame to work with.

what woudl u lot recommend for toning is it lots of smaller weights???

Toning = loads of reps of a light weight which you can easily handle.

Building = loads of weight (Constantly increasing to rip more muscle so that it repairs back larger), as many reps as you can manage. Should be doing a weight so as you struggle to 6 strict reps.

^^^ Simple terms.

Sorry mate but I couldnt stress enough the importance of eating during the one hour window of opportunity after a workout. Quick releasing protein and possibly a dose of high G.I carbs to act as an insulin spike is ideal. You need to get as many nutrients as possible after a workout.

Can if you want. Have just one whole egg and the rest egg whites as the yolk contains most of the saturated fat.

body starts going into a catabolic state after about 45minutes of training, so anything over an hour isnt good.

yep, but if someone wishes to correct me...

If your planning on training 4 times a week why no dedicate a day for cardio and the rest weight training?

I agree that ideally you should aim to train for upto an hour per session. Not sure about the body going into a catabolic state after 45 mins though? I would've thought it would depend on the person, genetics, nutrition etc.

oh and whilst i was there, there was a mon id his 30s on a rowing machine and one of the fittnes instructors was talking to him.

I sat on the one next to it and startted rowing. she says 'can i stop you for a minute'

i was like erm ok if you want.

she said you have got it all wrong. when coming forward let you hands and legs go at the same time and lean forward.

I laughed a bit and said i was rowing for 6 years. ive spent more time rowing on the water and sat on rowing machines than every one in this gym. i more than know how to use the rowing machine

She watched me for a bit and then told the bloke next to me to watch how i did it and copy me

haha, not really had the time lately due to coursework and stuff. But after reading this thread I now know where I was going very wrong

I was doing a lot of CV and resistance machines on the same sessions at the gym. My overall goal was actually weight / fat loss. Though I also wanted to tone up, hence using a lot of resistance machines.

Even though I was getting the fat / weight loss, I wasn't noticing much toning happening or muscle growth.

After reading this thread I know why, I was on a serious low fat, very low anything intake, plain soup for lunch, just a small dinner and that was pretty much it

So would just intaking high on protein, like a lot of plain chicken after doing weights, equal a similar (though not as effective) effect as having a whey or protein supplement?

Guess it didn't help I was also doing weights late at night just before going to bed either - fuck.

protein and carbs are what you want to be aiming for. If you dont take in enough carbs your body will use protein as an energy source.

similar thing happened at my gym. Couple of people on the treadmills, we were over by the freeweights and all of a sudden the lights turned off. Next thing we hear is a massive bang where someone had fallen of the treadmill.

I actually think the electrics went out so everyone stopped and looked at him laying half on half off the treadmill. Must have lost his balance or something. No one laughed for some reason.
