after my little incident at the weekend, i took out the alternator completely today to get a better idea of whati lost, found out i needed one of these:
looked through a box in my shed and found one 
so thought i would have a check to see how low my brushes are getting.....here are the results !!!
Have a spare alternator in my shed, but the brushes on that are not much better.
any idea where i can get some new ones?
