Read somewhere awhile ago, same car as mine (x16xe) he had the eco-tec section removed!
What is it? what it do? does it give any performance gains?

Also, what is the point of the upper section of inlet manifold? can it be removed and weld over the 4 holes on top of the lower section of inlet?

cant remove the ecotec element of the engine really, its not a bolt on part as such. the difference between these and the pre-ecotec engines is that they come with an EGR (exhaust gas re-circulation valve) and SAI secondary air injection.

these both work to reduce the hydrocarbons that the engine produces.

and no, you cant weld over the 'holes'
