if i was to buy a car on sunday, and wante to bring it home the same day, could i ring my insurer and get a cover note for the day?

or do i need to wait a few days?

You wont get a cover note that day but you can be insured from that moment

cool, so i could just ring up and start a policy with my chosen insurer if i decided to buy a certain car?

yep; make sure of there opening times at the weekend tho mate; i had this problem when i bought my BMW cabriolet; by the time i had sorted the deal there lines had closed
