I hope you were downloading at the time......otherwise, those responses are absolutely abysmal.
And I'd say it's PlusNet having problems with their network, there are posts all over ADSLGuide about their network being utterly cheese-grated over the Xmas holidays, because they've squeezed too many customers into too small a "space" in their network, they don't have the network-bandwidth to cope......one reason bandied around for why they've started introducing very harsh caps and restrictions.

I actually forgot about that, I was seeding approx 8 torrents at the time.

BT wholesale pages are usually caused by a problem within BT's network when you cannot be connected to the ISP for whatever reason, pipe drops can cause it.
