I know a guy who went to night class to learn. Wasnt a full mechanics course but was all the basics and how to take apart the engine built it back up etc
Was a few years ago now though

i started on a "motorsport" course at the national college of motorsport based at silverstone and partly at corby tech college
it was crap, most of the stuff we did was theory based around a-level maths

alot of the larger colleges will have night courses for some stuff that may interest you, easiest to to check their websites for ring up for a course list.
Most tend to start in either Sept ot Jan so would be quick as can fill up fairly fast.

I have to admit though i've learnt more through talking to the other guys on the course and doing my own car than i have from the lecturers!

Hmm...Preston it a bit of a drive for you, but I know preston college has loads of mechanical type courses. I'd imagine there is a colelge a bit closer to you that'll do them aswell though.

Im doing a Bsc in motorsport engineering!
Look on the net, at your local college. You will be hard pushed to find an evening course for motorsport
but you should find one on car mechanics etc etc
hope that helps, anymore ask me!!
