just bought some for my install and they have cigarette plugs on the end if i cut them off how do i know which is neg and which is pos? the cable is clear not black and red

doesnt matter,as long as ones lived and the others earthed

The above is incorrect. Leds will only work one way.

use a voltmeter! However i believe the wire that connects to the fuse in the middle is positive. Strip down the plug and u will see 1 connected to the contacts on the side (-ve i believe) and positive at the fuse

One of the wires usually has a small tracer to indicate positive but the rule with fag lighters is centre positive, outer clip negative.

just hang a 9v battery off them to find out which is positive/negative. It wont hurt them. You can tell which is leg is positive by looking inside the led itself but if you cant see which leg goes to which wire then that aint gonna help.
