Well with my new job, one of the benefits was real cheap membership at a local Gym, so today I thought, bah - Ill give it ago.

I was there for an hour and a little bit, and followed this old guy around pretty much copying his routine because I didnt have a clue

I felt pretty good while I was at it, bashing away at all the Cardio stuff, then playing with the weights a bit, but its left me absolutely fucked

I stalled the car on the way home because my legs have just stopped talking to me, I feel sick and I can hardly type... and I was following an old man around the gym

Anyway, next time Im doing a proper induction and going round with a trainer for a bit, but is there anything you guys do before/after your workout to stop you feeling suicidal?

If you are just starting out then take it steady for a few month, Progresion is important, especially if you are doing exercises that use muscles in a way you wouldn't use in everyday life.

You shouldn't stretch cold muscles imo. Stretching goes through "phases" the latest one being dynamic stretching. I personally agree with people that do a steady warm up first then strecth. It's mainly down to whoever you ask though!

yeh a usually do a 5 mins jog on tread mill then move onto the stretches but i guess its just down to who you ask or what you think works for them. each to there own.

only spend about an 45mins to an hour training. Dont make the same mistake i did when i first started and follow the belief 'longer you train the better' because it isnt true.

i wouldn't bother with induction if you can avoid it. its a waste of money, you'll learn how to use the machines quite quickly
