its not life threatening, you just have to look after yourself and monitor you diet, eg. cut down your sugar in take by say 80%. he's had it a few years now, he at first just had to watch his diet, and eat a lot of fruit and veg, and as less sugar as poss. but he couldnt carry on with a diet, so the docs put him on some pills.

My ex girlfriend's mum has Diabetes, she is in her early 50s and only found out she had it about a year or two ago.

She doesn't have to inject herself with insulin every day etc. but has to watch what she eats and check her blood/sugar levels etc. every day.

Apparently she only got it because of stuff she's been taking most of her life for her asthma and stuff.

And generally due to the food they have eaten all their lifes. You get two different types of Diabeties. Diabeties Type 1 and Type 2. Basically what Diabeties is a metabolic disease of the endocrine system which arises as a result of the body being unable to control its own blood sugar levels. Type 2 is Non Insulin Dependant. Ideal treatment for Type 2 is Exercise and correct nutrition.

my grandad lived with diabetes for 30 odd yrs before he died. 25 of them whilst on insulin (he did not die as a result of diabetes).

it affects different people in different ways and depends how you look after yourself with it.

Its to do with your pancreas not doing the job it should do and in this country they don't do many pancreas transplants due to it being one of the first organs that shut down when people die often resulting in them not being fit to transplant.

If you have got it you will be fine as long as you do what they tell you and will be able to live a normal life

My nephew was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 2 years old. Since that age he's had to have 2 injections everyday and has to have blood taken from his finger numerous times throughout the day to test his blood sugar levels. He was on an insulin drip for 2 weeks when he was first diagnosed and very nearly fell into a coma...
