Jolly good car - far superior to the MK 3 and the Mk5 - sorry Rob.

Well done - unless it's a 2 litre petrol.

Only the 150 bhp versions.

Most are 110 or 130.

Jim means the window falls down when the regulator breaks - he's probably been eating sugar again and is off his tits.

A lot of factory fitted regs (particularly on earlier cars) have plastic support parts which break, but replacement regs have metal items so won't fail again after repair.

Don't worry, the glass doesn't break and if your carefull, i.e. don't go holding the down button when the window is frozen shut, chances are, they'll stay fine. In fact you'll probably find that at least one of the regs has already been changed under warranty for an improved unit.

Make sure pollen filter cover/rain deflector is good as can allow water ingress if damaged by clumsy repair/service, and the housing/ base can sometimes leak through the seal to the bodywork.

Wiper mechs can seize up and the wipers run dead slow or not at all but the motor will be fine, so is a cheapish repair.

Keep an eye on rear washer as pipe can pop off in tailgate (and requires a small modification with a tiny jubilee clip).
Also in nearside 'C' pillar, near roof.
This soaks the pillar trim and also fills the boot and wheel well etc with washer fluid and ruins the plug and wiring for the boot open warning switch and keeps the warning on even if the boot is shut.

Temperature senders can go silly, as can the brake light switch.
These will both make the emmissions warning light come on.

The cam can wear a hole in the top of a lifter occassionally on 150s (I've seen two in 19 months), so keep good oil in her.

Heated seat elements can pack up.

Water pumps can go too.

Oh, and be very carefull with speed humps, crap roads and pot holes etc.
The suspension is soft and has a lot of travel, and the sump is incredibly low and you will smash the living daylights out of it at the drop of a hat.

4 - when did you last climb in through the boot Dave?

Safer in a side impact - nice 'B' pillar to protect you, and ease of acces for rear passengers in the event of a crash also.

...and your mates can get in and out of the back without getting tangled in the seatbelts and scuffing the sills and without you having to climb out.

I did mean diesels and mid range models and not the GTi Rob, hence the apology mate.

I wasn't clear enough though - sincere apologies mate, didn't mean to upset you - hope you are not sad now
