heat them up with boiling water and peel them off

Yeah the hot water does help a lot! If theres any residue left then some tar remover might help, but the best stuff is some 3M adhesive remover... specially designed for such jobs

I did mine with a hair dryer, then got the excess off with white spirit and a cloth, was an outline on the paintwork where you could see where the badge was, it came out in a coat of t-cut
