I seen martin do a 190ish run at Redline records a few years back. He took Lee Manning out on a warm up run (175ish) with the spoiler off and the mirrors folded in, Lee said it wasnt very stable at them speeds!
Still, Andy F doing 210 in his STI 5 type R! Bet that was scary!!!! Unbeliveable that is, its not been built on a massive budget either.

Its good to see that in the world where jap cars seem to have dominance, an Escos can still cut it with new tricks!

Lots of £
The motorsport division of Ford along with people like Mountune and Eggenberger started developing the engine about 20 years ago and had a more or less open cheque book.
When forced induction development work first started Ford initially used the Pinto from the RS 2000 and got shockingly high power figures for a first attempt.
As time went on and Mike Costin and Keith Duckworth (Cosworth) and they're engineering team developed the YBD (alloy twin cam headed variant of the engine), they're initial builds produced more power than certain bodies wanted in relatively affordable production saloon cars.
The net result was that Cosworth had to redesign the head etc and introduce obstruction into the engine to reduce power output to a more 'tolerable' 200ish horespower for road use.
Of course track cars were a different kettle of fish and no such restrictions were in place so the RS 500 touring cars of the late 80s produced in the region of 560 horsepower and were unbeatable.
15 or so years down the line and after many years of use and development in the world rally championship in the Sierra and Escort, and in the hands of privateers and independant tuning companies etc etc, and the engine is understandably producing quite a lot of power, especially with the advent of advanced engine management sustems such as Motec equipment.
Apologies for the longwinded post and potted history of the YB, but it is one of my favourite subjects.
