ive got a 2nd hdd
tried to format it in windows xp
it goes throu to the end then says it cant format it

so how do i load dos up
or halt windows booting so i can get to dos
to format it
or is there another way

Go to BIOS (usually del or f12) and select CDROM as primary boot drive, boot up with CD in drive, and follow instructions on the screen, you should be able to choose a drive to format, and do it that way.

I use Partition Magic for formatting, never had a problem running under XP, should do the trick otherwise HD is fucked.

also boot files for XP can be found on the Microsoft site although you'll need 5/6 floppy disk's
