http://www.ntl.com/home/10mb/
Feck me, just read this on the ntl site, will take me 3secs to download an mp3! Its the only company in the world to do it! Live porn streaming will be amazing!
All 3mb (24.99 a month users) will be upgraded by the end of this year!

yea, been rumours about this for ages - its deffo a start to catch up with the rest of europe. However, upload speeds have yet to set and majority of webservers will never be able to offer you 1mb/s downloads, yet, so it seems a bit pointless for the time being.
Plus the one major problem is the NTLs network is good, but far off brilliant - and if a lot of people take this up, then its been said that a lot of people will have problems - plus its likely that "pings" will also increase due to this, so this is already peeing off a lot of gamers.
but yea, its good news to a certain extent

p.s - 3mb customers are 35.99 i believe, 2mb are 24.99

virgin.net (who I'm with) use NTL, so I should hopefully be getting this too! Probably about 6 months after proper NTL customers mind...
Put it this way - we are only being upgraded from 1Mb > 2Mb FOC now...

isnt virgin ADSL though? and i believe all NTL do is own and supply the backbones (pipes) for virgin
if its ADSL then i very much doubt that you wont get this upgrade, as NTL isnt ADSL, its Cable instead (totally different system) and i doubt NTL would open this up to any other network.
However, NTL are trialling ADSL2 as there able to use both systems on their network (have fibre optics as well as good old copper) - so a few years down the line you may expect ADSL2 connections from NTL as well, although as for Virgin im not sure what they will do - but im sure they might jump on the band wagon as well.
eitherway, i wouldnt get hyped up about this - like i say, NTLs network is far from perfect (infact quite a way from perfect, considering it has two 'kinda of compatible' network systems) so there will be lots of problems and unless NTL merge with Telewest or runs into a few billion quid to upgrade it all, i cant see it working that well, but i suppose we'll just have to wait

tbh though, untill hosting companies are able to supply servers with silly sized pipes, there really is no need to have a bigger connection than 4Mb.
Obviously hosting companies will catch up, but we're a good 2years away, if not maybe more, so i dont see what all the fuss is.
apart from your average bod, big numbers dont impress people - if you offer 24mb connection but have a shite network behind it, then whats the point - you'll just have a big group of fecked off customers, hence why i doubt NTL to offer this "speed upgrade".
Also, you can only push copper to a certain extent and from what i believe is the limit 30-40Mb or so? In which case whats going to happen 10years or so down the line, when everyone is wanting 50,100,1gig connections and DSL companies cant supply due to limitations?
