Ok when I got my H11 FXY private plate I sold my previous one, then a few months later I saw it for sale again.
Just went to DVLA to take my reg off it and they put on my old private reg as it was on retention from the guy who bought it off me and coz its not assigned to a vehicle and its the last reg that was on my car that one got put on even though it dont belong to dvla it belongs to someone else.
Asked about it and got told that when guy goes to put it back on a car it will be refused as its being used on another car even though it belongs to him and he will have the docs for it
This isnt right is it

I'm not entirely clear there, you mean you too H11 off and they put the car back on K4, so now the guy who bought K4 won't be able to use it?

They cannot sell a plate that someone else olds on retention they are talking bollox.
If a plate is help on a retention certificate that person owns it full stop.

Yeah took H11 off to put on my new car and the guy said the reg I would get put back on would be the last one that was on the car if not assigned to another car and its on retention so it got put back on. So when guy goes to assign K44 to his car he cant coz its now back on the tigra
Thought it was strange

Well its now on the tigra docs and my mot cert and tax disc has been changed to the old reg
But coz it was a private reg and now assinged to my car when the new owner of my car gets it apparently she is not allowed to sell it as its just a normal reg now. Even if she gets another private reg on it the K44 one would be void

No, as just said its now not a private reg so new owner cant sell it it would just be void if she took it off to put another one on
And its not my mate I sold it too, I sold it on ebay to a stranger

Who ever you got that from is talking rubbish (prob a DVLA desk monkey) I have had alot of dealings with Private reg's and they are talking crap.
The only way that plate went back on the car is if the owner -
A) Never put the plate on a car or another retention form after it ran out.
B) Never filled a retention form in.
C) Sold it back to the DVLA (which is very unlikely)

Also a private reg does not just stop being a private reg, If someone wanted to buy it you just fill out the correct paper work and Transfer a new number to the car it came off.

Don't believe them, if you want to sell the plate on again I would do it and get some extra cash
