right, my situation is as follows.
I have set up mysql on 1 of my pc's at home which is connected directly to the internet and created a database.
I have a user 'root' which as full access from all hosts.
I installed mysql-front on another pc on my network and was able to connect to the database with full access and check and change anything I want.
I have opened port 3306 in my firewall to allow connections to the database from the internet (in this case i plan on using it for a forum while i test it out)
I set up the config file for the forum I want to use with the correct ip address as the databse host and with the user details I set up with full access.
However when I try and attach the databse to the forum throught a set up procedure on my web page it gives access denied to server! In my sql I can see how many times it has attempted to attach to the database, so its reaching the db but not connecting.
The only think I can find that is not working is, if i try to use telnet to connect to the db from the second pc (which can connect throught my-sql) i get error "bad handshake"
I am very new to this, so if anyone has any previous experiance or suggestions please let me know.
Cheers

when you say "I have a user 'root' which has full access from all hosts."
Have you confirmed that you can actually connect from a different machine?

you are trying to access the db on your pc on your home network from free webspace?
Have you setup port forwarding on your router?
Why not just install apache locally?
