went to see a mate and was chatting to him about his car out front of his house. accross the road there is a speed camera and were commenting on how much money it must make cos the stretch of road is fast and the camera is slightly obscured by a tree.

we then hear a loudish exhaust note followed by a Ptshhhhh both look up the road and approaching quite quick is a white ford escort (happend to be a cosworth)

i said to my mate that he gonna get flashed which he did, had to have been going about 120-130.

but what made this funny was the guy jumped on the stop pedal, did a u-turn parked up in front of us, crossed the road and preceeded to pour petrol all over the camera and lighting it.

he then left as if what he did was a totally natural reaction.

couple minutes later camera was no more.

I think at the minute they are actually film. In the future there is talk of using the phone lines to send it digitally. I may be wrong on both accounts but thats what Ive heard

The new speed curb ones (much taller with a smaller yellow box) get wired via broadband direct but the standard gatsos still have film in them.

Sounds similar to what I've also heard, I just wasn't sure if they had integrated that technology yet.

PMSL. Fair play to him. As long as the said camera isn't outside a School, or something similar. I find it funny when they get destroyed

Max Power and the like got in trouble as they were effectively encouraging it by asking for pics of vandalised ones to be sent in

A tyre hooked over the camera, filled with petrol and set alight is a favourite round here.

Less common but more entertaining is finding/making a hole in the casing, and squirting expanding filler foam into it

There is one near us that someone turned around so it faced a railway track.

Yeah it went mental. Not quite as funny as those coppers that were aiming a handheld gatso at the brow of a hill and caught a low flying tornado going at ridiculous speed though.

i think it did if i remember the story correctly - the pilots contacted base and asked about it, as they thought it was a ground to air missle

I hate that . Personally if it were me, i'd be out every week with a pair of shears making sure every fucker can see the camera. theres one on a main road by me they've recently put up, and its tottally obscured by an over grown bush. Funny how they can get away with not chopping down the bust for the camera, but they cant do the same with signs .
