Yeah, I remeber it! Think mine was done around the same time as Andys.

Think yours was the first 2 litre to have throttle bodies in that case, it was the inspiration for me getting mine thinking back! I had a problem with the fuelling/ECU/sensors/idle/MAF/ on the standard 2 litre so got throttle bodies and a new ECU to fix the problem as Id spent months trying to sort it! Bit of an expensive fix but it gave me 30bhp!

Oh yea, who was the first bright spark to put a LET in?

(Moved from offday )

A friend of a friend that I used to know; called John; had a 2.0L 16V Astra GTE engine on sidedraughts in his white 1.3 SR in 1992, or possibly 1993 at the latest.

The car looked standard except for a set of SRi 130 rims, a bigger exhaust, and some Ascona 400 style vents cut into the bonnet to disipate the extra heat.

He started by having the 1300 breathed on and then he progressed to I think a two litre, shortly after that he had the twin cam engine fitted.

It was fuel injected at first, and when he changed it to carbs he gained over twenty horsepower at full tilt.

It sounded amazing, like a motorbike, and was very unusual in it's day.

John came from Charlton in S.E. London, he used to bring his car to the Chelsea and Crystal Palace cruises etc. and it was featured in Fast car at the same sort of time. It was the cover car, and was pictured with the bonnet removed (I think) and a nice brunette lady standing either next to, or on it.

He came in the top five at Ultimate Fast Car in 1993 (or 1994, I can't remember for sure) along with my mate Dave's stupid fast, all steel HT racing powered MK I XR2, which it would give a good run for it's money at Santa Pod, aswell as other after hours venues.

It was a very impressive little car

I'll see if I can dig the issue it was featured in out to confirm the date.

Can't remeber his sir name, it was quite a long time ago.
That does ring a bell though.

He was a massive fella with red hair and a husky voice, and he looked like he would kill you as soon as look at you but was actually a realy nice bloke.

If I can find the issue of Fast Car he was in, it should have his full name.
I shall post as soon as I find it
