lol, audio bahn are lookers not good speakers tbh... but could be worse.

with the amp yeah u want as much power as you can afford, leaves a sub upgrade path open and will always sound cleaner.

a 1200w rms amp is NOT too much for a 500w sub if set up correctly.

All so a good way to tell the true power of a AMP is to look @ the FUSE'S as mine is 120amp 3x40 so you work it out like this .3x40 = 120 then you + 0 to the end and that give's you the true RMS of the amp. so as u can see mine is 1200RMS @ 2 ohm

Are you on talk audio?

I believe, this isn't the true power... the fuse ratings give an approximate amount to tell you how much the amp can power, having a bigger fuse ratings identifies that it can product more power so basically shit splx amps n stuff like that only have like 10amp fuse ratings showing their potential (which is fuck all lol).....

Now, back to the original question in hand.....

You don't need to tell people it operates at 2ohms or 4ohms, just tell them it's dual 4ohm. I'm sure people will understand that

You said you think you need something around 500w RMS, and 800w MAX. Don't ever say stuff about MAX figures, they mean absolutely fcuk all and have no relevance to ICE. As for the 500w RMS, you will need this to get the moving, but having any amount of power above this is a bonus. As many people have told you, overpowering the subs is much better than underpowering the subs. So some of the amps suggested (whether they be 550W RMS @ 2ohms, 600w RMS @ 2ohms), they'll power the sub nicely! Don't be scared if they over power it, just don't be chav with the 'gain' setting and don't put it too loud. A good and basic way to set the gain is to increase it until the sub starts distorting or it doesn't go any louder, when this happens, turn the gain down a bit. The gain is not a volume!

Also, why did you say think an alpine one would be good for the choice? Sure they have some decent amps, but just because they're a big brand new, doesn't mean they're the best. The are loads of brands out there that will be good for your setup.

Now, on to the amps...

This amp gives 550w RMS @ 2ohms

This amp will be a good match for your sub.

The second amp to consider is the JBL 601.1

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4134&cadid=95c3157e16ea1f9b97fb3f0ce140bd79

Giving 580w RMS @ 2ohms, this amp would also be an ideal match for your sub.

DON'T BE SCARED TO OVERPOWER YOUR SUBWOOFER!!!! IT'S A GOOD THING! Somethings the sub can handle much more than the recommended input power!

You also said that you want the setup to be seriously loud.

If you want it seriously loud, it doesn't all depend on the amp. Get a custom made ported box, tuned to a low frequency which will make the sub sound nice and low. This will give you good 'streetbass' and I'm sure you will more than happy with the sound of this!!!

Hope that all makes sense and gets rid of any confusion

I did say initially that the kenwood amp would be fine, overpowering by 50wRMS is nothing.

You've got more chance blowing a sub by underpowering.

Cant believe this thread has gotten so big, might split it tomorrow.

couldnt of said it better myself

i have 2 kicker 15"s dvc subs wired at 1 ohm (the subs rated at 300rms each) and i using a viper 600.1 amp at the moment. The extra power would be an advantage but to be honest im runnig at 140Db on the new mikes at Db drag so im quite happy

and couldnt not agree more about max power.pmp etc ratings they mean jack all

And on the note of audiobahn:

They are awsome looking subwoofers and alot of people love the sound from them. But as anyone will always say, you wont know better until you have heard better.

If you are happy with it, thats all that matters!
