My pc is taking ages to start up and shut down. I have no clue about computers has anybody got any ideas on why this could be?

i suspect you have too many services running. open start, click on run, and type msconfig, press enter. click on startup tab, and turn off stuff which isnt needed. also go and get yourself some spyware protection. IE, Microsoft Antispyware, AdAwareSE Personal, Spybot S&D. all can be got from www.download.com

also Start > Run then type eventvwr
check that there are no errors relating to hardware problems or device drivers. If there are post them here and we'll try to help

most likely to be loads of rubbish installed on the computer.
goto http://www.pcpitstop.com and click full test on the left, it will check your hardware for problems
