Just got a set of 16" wheels, going to fit 195/45/R16 tyres. Any rubbage gen on standard suspension?

They are ET37, but I'm going to grind them down to ET45 ish.

LoL! You bet I am!

Going to take 8mm off with a lathe if the wheel clears the sides. If not my mate is a cnc machinist, he should be able to take it down and square it off.

Will he also x-ray the wheels for any fractures and stress test the wheels afterwards?

I used to be an agfa engineer so I could get them x'd if I wanted to but tbh not much point. As far as stress testing goes, I think removing 8mm of material should be fine as the core of the wheel has loads of material. As long as they balance fine and dont fall apart at high speeds then I'm happy.

In the end of they day, they are a £50 set of alloys so I dont care much if they get damaged beyond repair. Just want some bigger wheels so I can install some bigger brakes.

its not that simple dude, pre-cast alloys are precision made, you start shaving them down to increase offset and you might fuck it up and not know about it. leave it to a pro

Its not the amount of material in the middle, its the depth of the material around the holes that the bolts go through, if this becomes too thin, the forces generated by accelerating and braking by the wheels luts will start stressing the metal around them. .
