a cat5 patch lead will go up to 25M. Thats all we recommend anaywayz. any more than that, your better off wiring in point of wireless

As above, as I've just corrected Natz!
100m is maximum supported length for any 10-base-T, 100-base-T, or 1000-base-T ethernet cable!

Mine's running about 15-20m from main socket, upstairs, into my spare room (normal phone cable)......my last speed-test still showed 1920kbps (240KB/sec).

Its not unheard of to get problems if you are not direct to the master PSTN socket.

Yup, which is why it's usually the first thing you'll get asked if you contact your ISP in the event of any problems - please try the connection from the master socket with all other devices unplugged (or even try it from the test-socket, inside your master-socket, if it's a new-style two-piece jobby).

end of the day if you have to have your PC away from the master socket (like most) it is better to run a Cat 5 cable from the router to your PC than run a standard PSTN extension cable.

A lot cheaper, too, if you were planning on getting BT to do the wiring for you!

Although a PSTN will stand up to more of the day to day wear and tear of internal use... RJ45 Cat5 it better for outdoor use cos of the very good waterproofing.... however it is quite delicate.

erm how does cat 5 work? erm its a network cable
your router could be by your phone socket and yes it could be cat 5 that runs from your router into the back of your pc. the cable should read cat5e and be round bt cable would be thin .
either way yes will be fine (unless you have a really MASSIVE house)

I'm not up on networking cables
so cat 5 is the ethernet one that goes from router to computer (is grey)
