2 network cards, 1 crossover cable, let windows assign an internal 169.x.x.x, done. start game, create server, connect to it via lan on the other machine.

If you are connecting two computers directly, then you need 2 network cards and a crossover cable.
If you dont have a crossover cable, no link can be established between the machines.

ive got the cross over cable.. i wana connect mu laptop 2 the pc..
im pretty sure both are network ready...

as long as both have network ports then obviously they will work.

Run the home networking wizard on either machine
Start > All programs > Accessories > Communications > Network setup wizard.
