If you have the insurance documentation and it still says you are insured afaik you are actually still insured. Not 100% but i think they must honour any documentation you have, it's up to them to chase you up to return the docs you have.

Then i think you will find there isnt much you can do with out any money!
Not got a credit card you can bung it on?
Im sure they have to inform you that the direct debit has failed and then try again with in a certain time frame if it hasnt happend before.

they do have to notify you, they cant just terminate the insurance in that short a time frame & not tell you about it...
get intouch with the insurance abundsman(thingy) i cant remember the spelling & explain to them whats happened...
My direct debit didnt go through this month either so I paid via credit card after they told me... No problems & they even wavered the charge for missing a direct debit payment!

Well maybe they wouldn't pay out on a claim. Was just told off of somebody I know that works for norwich union. Its up to them to retrieve the cover note, but it costs more to chase it up than it does to pay out on the average claims they get. As i said though, not 100% sure. As far as being stopped by police etc though you are insured.
