Turbocharged cars historically run better on higher octane fuel anyway, don't they?

Don't think it makes a lot of difference on naturally aspirated cars, certainly not performance-wise anyway, just better MPG. I have been using Optimax in my Astra (X14XE), no performance difference but better MPG.

I'm gonna start using super unleaded from another servo this month, see if I notice any difference between that and Shell's offering.

And by the way, I don't use 97RON fuel thinking I'm gonna get better performance out of my engine; it's a 1.4 FFS! I just want better MPG as I do a lot of driving!

whenever i fill up, i always put in £25 worth of petrol in my Gsi

and everytime i use Optimax i always get less miles compared to normal unleaded from shell!!! but it does run smoother

When i start my placement in Sept, think i will give Optimax a go as i have to pass the Shell service station. It's a bit out the way at the moment so the cheap stuff will have to do. Will be handy the extra MPG as i've be doing 250 miles just to get to work and back plus if i keep my other job too that's like another 150 miles. Then there is the other few miles to Tesco and mates etc.

To be honest I wouldnt bother with the extra expense unless driving a turbocharged car mapped to higher ron fuel!! Ive tried it in euro and jap NA cars and noticed no difference!!
