Piggy in a van with a secret window job.

In a 40 limit, i slowed down i think with enough time toi see him, i then proceeded to act cautiously, i then saw a nice vx220 on the other side, i looked at it, looked back and was doing nearly 45mph Its possible i wasnt paying attention and went fast

Anyone know weather these things flash? How much of a range have they got?

they don't flash, range depends on the angle it is pointed at really and what model of camera, try not to worry bout it, just have to wait and see

i'm not sure if the window jobbies out the back of a van flash and im guessing they have quite a big range

also if your speedo is showing you doing around 45mph or so you are propably doing around 41ish so if they had been wathcing you and u were doing bit below 45 you iwll have propably been doing 40mph

i read that in my road angel booklet, as they say the car has to allow for weight and other things...

44 is the lowest possible they can do you for in a 40, 10% plus 1 mph, you should be ok

I got away with 24 in a 20 (got flashed) and 80 in a 70 (police car with camera). You may be OK!

hmmm... that makes 45
10 % of 40 is 4 + 1mph = 45

so jambo was prob ok, even if his speedo was spot on

I think they take an average speed over a given distance, so if your average was under 45 you should be ok.

if it was one of the white vans with no markings, then its the number plate checking vans - i shat myself when i saw one once, but didnt get anything through post

Otherwise it was a piggy speed van and like the others said you'll just have to wait and see mate

best thing to do to carry on speeding and avoid getting caught by mobile cameras is to weave about on the road, as the laser thing needs to lock onto the car for a certain time to get a reading, and if you wiggle, you avoid it getting latched on to you

Yeah, but you get done for dangerous driving instead..

As for all the speeding, some lasers can work at over 600m, although if it was only a 40mph limit i doubt the one you saw would be operating at that range.. The most common form of laser equipment used is the LTI 20/20 Speedscope which is used in conjuction with a vieo recorder and it doesn't flash.

As for the 10%+1 threshold, that is only a recommended guideline. Different constabularies have different thresholds. As far as the courts are concerned, 41mph in a 40mph zone is breaking the law.

Can you tell i've been doing some research?

True, but its less than a second.

Mobile vans have digital cameras with a pretty long range
