Currently working for a 3rd Line team (Systems & Networks Engineer) for an ISP, worked my way up from 1st Line Support (the usual "do I have to take the modem out of the box to connect to the internet?" queries are a thing of the past for me ).

Not on an amazing amount of money (it's under £20k, that's all I'll say), but when you can buy a two-bedroom semi-detached house around here for under £40k, it's bearable!

One thing I will say, you have to have a LOT of patience to work on 1st Line Support, I know from 2 years experience (across two companies) of doing it.

Currently working towards CCNA (Cisco Certified Networking Associate) and LPI (Linux Professional Institute) qualifications......they'll do nicely if I can get both of them!

I've got my placement next year too. Gonna be fixing computers, building a small network and as it's a kids school i'll be helping out in classes and showing the kids how to use computers etc. I'm getting paid £12,000 - that's from Sept to June/July.

OK, little update now - need some more help!

Had the details for the interview through the post today and it turns out I gotta do a 5 min presentation on "What qualities and skills make a successful Technology helpdesk member?". Can't say I'm exactly looking forward to this...(I've obviously got a few ideas knocking around but having your input will help)

So... any ideas?! What makes you a great helpdesk member

i'm looking for IT jobs at the moment, would very much welcome a 1st line support helpdesk role or something similar.

Hate it where I am and need to get out.

Anyone offer me a job?
