Have just got my February pay slip and it's nearly double the ammount I usually get paid. There is two lots of salary arrears which I don't know anything of. I have just been promoted and this is my first pay packet since then so I think someone in personnel has typed in some wrong details.
Think I will just let most of it sit there for a couple of months and just hope they don't recognise a mistake.

Of course they can take it back..
But I'm not sure if it is a mistake or not though? There is a message at the bottom of my payslip that reads..
Basic salary arrears 07-FEB-04 to 31-JUL-04. Progression. Season Ticket repayment complete.

salary arrears is when you're getting the wrong amount each month and this payment is to make up for that.
How much is it if you don't mind me asking?

Been thinking though, if they do take it back (prob out of my next months pay) they better take into account the high ammount tax and NI I had to pay on it!

they can (altough they cant make you pay it all back at once) and legaly speaking if you continue to take the mistaken amount for an extended period of time you could be charged with fraud, its better you point it out, and they sort it out, then them come to you and ask you why you hadnt brought it up. speaking legally ofcause
speaking on a personal level, just leave it be for a while incase they ask for it back. if nothing happens past the end of tax year, spend it
