Running on 2 cylinders, no power, stalling and a very loud tapping noise (like the tappets but clearer). At least my cars a head turner now
Any one had these probs before and was it fixed or not???
I was thinkin it might be something in the ignition/fuel system cos i did less then 20miles on a fiver doin about 45-50mph.

1. STOP driving on 2 cylinders as you'll completely kill the engine.
Have you checked the plugs and leads? Have you checked for sparks? Is is DIS or Dizzy XE?

Its sat on the drive right now, theres no way im drivin it the way it is and
Havnt checked anything yet.
Its the dizzy xe. im gonna have the cam cover off and check for any signs of damage, maybe the tappets have fooked??
Do you think a foooked spark plug or lead can cause the horrible sounds or even the dizzy??

Well its bound to rattle a bit if its running on 2 cylinders. I'd get the leads off and plugs out and inspect for damage on them - i.e that they are still in one piece. Could be damp in the ignition from the recent weather thats causing your missfire as its a bit unlikely for 2 pots to suddenly go unless its something serious. If your battery is fairly healthy try cranking it over on the starter only or maybe by hand if possible? If its seriously rattling a few more mins turning over wont cause any more damage, i'd just get it running on 4 before you start pulling off the rocker...

It may be damp as ive got no inner arch lining on the dizzy side of the engine bay.
From what you have said it may be serious, because for most of my journey the car was fine and the next thing i know my cars a head turner and running crap.
Cheers for the advice Tomas
Just hope its not gonna cost ££££££££££££

The gasket may have gone the engine leaks a fair amount of oil. Wouldnt the oil become a mustardy colour though or am a thinking wrong?
Apart from this prolem the oil looks fine, the coolants ok and the oil level is fine.

when my gasket went like above, oil & coolant were all fine, but there was no compression between the 2 cylinders

First I'd renew the dizzy cap and arm plugs and check the leads are ok before taking the engine apart.

Even with damp it can just 'go'. I washed down my engine bay the other day and like a fool forgot about the damp factor. Went to drove it and it was fine for like 2/3 miles then it developed a MONSTER misfire poping like a goodun. Got home to find my plugs were drowned in soapy water!! Removed em and the leads, leads in the airing cupboard overnight and plugs at gas mark 6 for an hour. Cranked the engine over on the starter with no plugs in - to blast the water out the holes and its good as new now...

Right then il check the plugs and dizzy cap 2moz.
Just hope its something simple like that and not the head gasket or something worse.
As for taking the engine apart thats the last thing i want to do.
Cheers 4 the help fellas, just hope i can sort it soon.

I also have a glass half empty
Checked leads and plugs so far and have the cam cover off, the cams look ok and theres no chunks of metal lying around.
Gonna try a compression test 2moz, thats if the weather is ok ie not -10 like today, Will post further developements
Hopefully it really isnt dead, but like u were saying i also think the worst

Tried a compression test today and it seems that the gasket has gone between cylinders 3 and 4....like Paul W had.
Only prob now is the f*cking cylinder head wont come off,

its on soooo tight. All the bolts and hoses are off, has anybody ever had this prob and how did they manage to break the seal??

use a hammer & a block of wood, knocking the head from either side (not the front or back) and keep trying to pull it up!
its gona be the locating plugs which are making it a bitch to get off!

its probably stuck on the dowels..... use a rubber mallet on the side of the head to SHOCK the head... take a break... have some tea or a beer if ur an alcholic.. go back to it and try again....

Do you reckon the head needs to be skimmed, as ive been strongly advised to get it skimmed to eliminate any further probs???
