fit alarm stickers to your car in the hope of deterring thieves?

Do you think it would work?

I was just having a discussion with someone who thought it would be a good idea to just use stickers as a temporary measure.

I think it's foolish to be honest.

Say if the chav want's to 'test' out the alarm to make sure and finds out there's nothing there, this will encourage him even more would it not?!

Buy one of those flashing LED's and a Tracker stickers, that'd prolly be more effective, on the right car of course. No-ones gonna put a tracker on a 1.1 fiesta .

£1.50 for a sticker and flashing led
£300 + for an alarm.....

Personally I have alarm but I can't imagine a sticker or led can do any harm

Depends if its a real sticker or a blatent Halfords 99p effort.

Back in the day I had LEDs on my door pins (before Richbrook stole the idea) but used a three colour LED, ground the middle and it lights up green if you live the left pin and red if you live the right one, and yellow if you live them both.

We got two of the chips that are used in TV remotes for the infra red LED (my dad used to be a TV engineer, hence knowing all this crap), and slowed the binary word down by increasing the capacitance on the the discharge state - slightly different in each circuit so it was a bit more random - and hooked them both the different sides of the LED.

Used to flash green, red bit of yellow occasionally but it was also slow enough that when you walked past it appeared to react to what you were doing.

Car was never touched...

I don't have the stuff for doing it anymore, made a little PCB up and everything, put it in a proper GM relay box that we acquired on scrappy missions. They always had loads of mk3 Cavs, so I also used to collect door pin switches. Very handy for alarming your bonnet, looks factory

I dare say that you can buy that sort of stuff off the shelf now. Just need a binary word generator, gives you nice 01110100101 patterns little bit random instead of 555 logic timers which are just on-off.

My brother had twinkle twinkle little star for his lights on warning buzzer as well with some ROM from Maplin.

Wouldn't know where to start to get back in to it. Forgotten more than I bloody knew...
